GODET COGNAC

Founding and History

  • Godet Cognac is a historic family-run Cognac house, founded in 1782 by Augustin Godet in the coastal town of La Rochelle, France. The Godet family, originally from the Netherlands, had been involved in the wine trade since the 16th century before establishing their Cognac business. Now in its 15th generation, the house continues to be led by descendants of the founding family, making it one of the oldest Cognac producers still under family control.

  • Uniquely located near the Atlantic coast, Godet takes advantage of its maritime environment to age their Cognacs. The salt air and coastal climate contribute to the distinct character of Godet's Cognacs, which are renowned for their freshness and refined elegance.

Style and Offerings

  • Godet's style is often described as fresh, light, and aromatic, with a focus on floral and fruity notes. They source their eaux-de-vie primarily from the Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, and Fins Bois regions, crafting blends that are both delicate and complex.

  • The Godet house places a special emphasis on maritime aging, where the Cognacs are stored in humid, coastal cellars. This method lends a unique salinity and freshness to their spirits, setting them apart from other Cognac houses. Their range includes everything from youthful and vibrant Cognacs to long-aged, complex expressions
