GROSPERRIN COGNAC

Founding and History

  • Grosperrin Cognac was founded in the early 1990s by Jean Grosperrin, a former Cognac broker who spent years building relationships with small growers and distillers throughout the region. He saw an opportunity to preserve and highlight rare, artisanal Cognacs that were often overlooked by larger houses. The company, based in Saintes, specializes in sourcing and bottling small-batch Cognacs, many of which are made from old stocks stored by families for generations.

  • Unlike traditional Cognac houses, Grosperrin does not distill or produce Cognac in-house. Instead, they focus on finding and preserving exceptional eaux-de-vie, often from small, independent growers. Grosperrin emphasizes transparency in their bottling, offering detailed information on the origin, age, and terroir of each Cognac they release.

Style and Offerings

  • Grosperrin Cognacs are known for their authenticity, complexity, and distinctiveness. Their philosophy is to let the terroir, and the natural aging process speak for themselves, avoiding the use of additives such as caramel or sugar. Each expression is unique, often highlighting rare or old eaux-de-vie that have been aged for decades.

  • The house primarily focuses on single-terroir and vintage Cognacs, with an emphasis on expressing the unique characteristics of specific regions and years. Grosperrin’s Cognacs are often described as rich, powerful, and complex, with flavors that range from fresh fruits and flowers to deeper notes of spice, oak, and rancio.
