REMY MARTIN
Founding and History
Rémy Martin was founded in 1724 by a young winegrower, Rémy Martin, in the heart of Cognac, France. Over the centuries, the house has grown to become one of the most recognized and prestigious names in Cognac. Unique among the largest Cognac producers, Rémy Martin has always focused exclusively on creating Fine Champagne Cognac, meaning that all its eaux-de-vie come from the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne crus, the two most respected regions in Cognac production.
The house rose to prominence in the late 19th century and continued to innovate under the leadership of André Renaud, who officially made Fine Champagne Cognac the focus of Rémy Martin in 1948. Today, Rémy Martin continues to uphold its rich heritage while innovating in blending and aging techniques to create Cognacs that appeal to both traditional enthusiasts and modern audiences.
Style and Offerings
Rémy Martin is known for its rich, harmonious style, characterized by complex layers of fruit, floral, and spice notes. The house’s Cognacs are celebrated for their balance between power and elegance, with a full-bodied texture and a long, smooth finish. The Fine Champagne designation ensures that each bottle is made from eaux-de-vie that age exceptionally well, delivering depth and refinement with every expression.
Rémy Martin distills its eaux-de-vie on the lees, a technique that adds richness and intensity to the spirit, and ages its Cognacs in Limousin oak barrels, which impart a distinctive oak character while allowing the spirit to develop complexity over time. The house’s blending expertise, carried out by a team of Cellar Masters, ensures that each bottle maintains the house’s signature style while showcasing the unique characteristics of the Fine Champagne crus.
