LARSEN COGNAC

Founding and History

  • Larsen Cognac was founded in 1926 by Jens Reidar Larsen, a Norwegian who set sail for the United States in search of adventure but ended up in the Cognac region of France. Captivated by the region and its rich heritage of producing exceptional eaux-de-vie, Larsen decided to remain in Cognac, establishing his own house. Inspired by his Viking roots, Larsen adopted the Viking ship as the symbol of the brand, reflecting both his adventurous spirit and his dedication to exploration and quality.

  • From the beginning, Larsen Cognac focused on crafting fresh, fruity, and aromatic Cognacs, setting itself apart with a distinctive style that honors the purity of the eaux-de-vie. Over the years, the house has maintained its commitment to traditional Cognac-making techniques while continuing to expand its reach internationally, becoming one of the most recognized brands outside of France.

Style and Offerings

  • Larsen Cognac is renowned for its vibrant, fruity style, achieved by using eaux-de-vie that retain their natural freshness and lightness. The house is known for avoiding excessive aging in oak, allowing the fruit and floral characteristics to shine through. This approach results in Cognacs that are lively, aromatic, and approachable, making them particularly popular among those who appreciate a lighter, more modern profile.

  • The house sources its eaux-de-vie primarily from the Fins Bois and Grande Champagne crus, blending them to create expressions that are both balanced and expressive of their terroir. Larsen's Cognacs are celebrated for their purity, with no caramel or additives used, staying true to the natural flavors of the eaux-de-vie.
