COURVOISIER

Founding and History

  • Courvoisier was founded in 1828 by Emmanuel Courvoisier and Louis Gallois in the town of Jarnac, although its origins date back to 1809 when the business began as a wine and spirit merchant in Paris. The brand quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality Cognac, even earning the favor of Napoleon Bonaparte, which is why Courvoisier is often referred to as “The Cognac of Napoleon.”

  • Over the years, Courvoisier became one of the "Big Four" Cognac houses, and today it remains one of the most recognized and prestigious names in the world of Cognac. The house is renowned for its innovative approach to production while preserving traditional techniques, and its dedication to excellence has led to a global presence.

Style and Offerings

  • Courvoisier Cognac is known for its elegant and refined style, often described as smooth, balanced, and rich in flavor. The house sources its eaux-de-vie from the four top crus: Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies, and Fins Bois. This diversity of regions allows Courvoisier to create Cognacs that offer complexity and a wide range of aromatic profiles.

  • The house places great emphasis on the art of blending, and its master blenders carefully select and age eaux-de-vie to create harmonious and intricate expressions. Courvoisier’s Cognacs are often associated with floral, fruity, and spicy notes, with a focus on smoothness and approachability.
