BOURGOIN COGNAC

Founding and History

  • Bourgoin Cognac is a relatively young, family-owned distillery with a long tradition of winemaking and Cognac production in the village of Saint-Saturnin, in the Fins Bois cru of Cognac. The Bourgoin family has been cultivating grapes and producing Cognac for generations, but it was in 2012 when Frédéric Bourgoin, the current head of the family estate, decided to bottle Cognac under their own label rather than sell their eaux-de-vie to larger houses.

  • Frédéric Bourgoin’s philosophy is to produce natural, terroir-driven Cognac using minimal intervention and focusing on small-batch, single-cask releases. The house emphasizes transparency and authenticity, rejecting additives like caramel or sugar, and highlighting the raw beauty of their Cognac’s flavors and aromas.

Style and Offerings

  • Bourgoin Cognac is known for its modern, artisanal approach to Cognac production, with a focus on creating natural, pure expressions of the terroir. The house produces “micro-barrique” Cognacs, meaning that they age their eaux-de-vie in small barrels to maximize the interaction between the wood and the spirit, resulting in more concentrated flavors and aromas.

  • Bourgoin Cognac is bottled at higher proof than most traditional Cognacs, often unfiltered and uncut, which enhances the intensity of its character. The house focuses on transparency, providing detailed information on the age, vineyard, and distillation methods used in each release. Bourgoin’s style is raw, fresh, and expressive, appealing to those looking for a more natural and bold approach to Cognac.
