HINE COGNAC
Founding and History
Hine Cognac was founded in 1763 by Thomas Hine, an Englishman who moved to France and married into a Cognac-producing family. The house quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality Cognacs, and it remains one of the most respected names in the industry today. Hine is particularly known for its focus on producing vintage Cognacs and its commitment to using only eaux-de-vie from the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne regions, the top two Cognac crus.
With over 250 years of history, Hine has maintained a reputation for elegance and quality. It was appointed the official Cognac supplier to the British monarchy in 1962, a testament to its international prestige and commitment to excellence. Still family-owned, Hine is now run by the descendants of Thomas Hine and continues to blend tradition with innovation.
Style and Offerings
Hine Cognacs are celebrated for their light, floral, and fruity character, which stems from the house’s dedication to sourcing eaux-de-vie from the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne crus. These regions are known for producing Cognacs with great finesse and aging potential. Hine’s Cognacs are often aged longer than required by law, allowing the eaux-de-vie to develop complexity and depth.
The house is also renowned for its vintage Cognacs, with a focus on single-harvest releases that highlight the unique character of a specific year. Hine is one of the few Cognac houses that regularly produces vintage Cognacs, and it is known for aging them in both Cognac and in the UK, a technique that helps develop a smoother, more rounded flavor.
